Silk palm trees usually fall within the following size categories: 2 ft. or shorter, 3-5 ft., 6-8 ft., and 8 ft. or taller. In the silk plant industry, height is measured from the bottom of a container to the tip of a leaf stretched to its highest point. Though, there are some manufacturers that will give a more accurate reading for when the leaves are fluffed out. Do note, however, that by purchasing or placing a plant in a decorative container, the height may vary slightly. You can usually expect an artificial palm to be within 3 inches of the listed height.

What size plant should I order?

As a rule, plants look best when they are about 2' from the ceiling. If you have standard 8' ceilings, a 6' plant looks great. If you have an older home or apartment with 9' ceilings, a 7' tall plant might be better. The exception is for cathedral ceilings, anything over 9-10' looks terrific, as the plant will be over your head. If you put a 15' palm in 17' ceilings, it may look like it is hitting the ceiling!

Remember, not every plant has to be tall. If you have the space, try a tall plant next to one or two bushy ones, and try choosing plants with different leaf shapes for a nice arrangement.
