Silk Palm Trees FAQs

Silk Palm Trees FAQs

  • Q: What size plant should I order?
A: Plants generally look best when they are about 2 feet from the ceiling. Determine the height of the ceiling in the area you wish to display your palms.

  • Q: How is plant height measured?
A: Most manufacturers measure silk plant height based on the actual plant in the standard decorative container. If not potted or in a specialty pot, the size may slightly vary. Usually, height is measured from the bottom of a container to the tip of a leaf stretched to its highest point. But when the plant is fluffed out to its intended shape, that number usually goes down a bit.

  • Q: How are silk palm trees constructed?
A: In years past, silk plants were originally constructed using leaves of Chinese silk, but today they're made with synthetic fabrics such as polyester. Most branches and leaves are constructed of a plastic-coated wire stem and polyester leaves. Natural trunk trees are constructed with tree stems such as myrtle, dragon-wood, grapevine, birch, or maple. Some trunks are drilled and polyester branches are secured with a glue adhesive. Most artificial palm trees have a plastic, PVC, or fiberglass trunk. For a more realistic appearance, silk palm trees may also have natural plant materials (such as banana skin, palm stems, or palm heads). If the silk plant description says "natural trunk," this is from a formerly living plant.
