Fan Palm TreesJoin the Fan Club A fan tree is a low-growing palm with fan-shaped leaves. The leaves, or fronds, have cupped and spiked stems. You, too, can enjoy the beauty of this plant by artificial means and while sticking to your budget. Silk variations are very authentic-looking; some include real palm tree fibers in the trunk to add to the tree's realistic appearance. Some trim the trunk with natural bark accents to replicate the real thing, offering you additional trunk style options. This trim is constructed with durable poly resins that are molded from a real live palm trunk. Other manufacturers will cover the trunk in dark brown mesh. Almost Too Real Over time or through adverse conditions, fronds may split just like the fan fronds on live palms. Be wary of this as many manufacturers won't offer a warranty or refund for splitting or tearing; however, some do have replacement fronds available to purchase. Our recommendation? Keep the silk tree indoors. Getting exposed to the harsh elements outdoors (UV light, rain, wind, etc.) certainly won't help keep your fronds intact. A Plant That's Grounded Because the fan palm is made for smaller, more intimate settings, you won't find too many that are very tall. In fact, most fall in to the 3- 5 foot range. Height is measured from the ground to the top of the installed and shaped fronds. This is important to note because your tree may appear larger when shipped because the installed fronds may not be shaped yet. Not to worry, though. This is really easy to do. |
