Artificial flowers and silk flowers can be arranged to form many different types of wedding centerpieces. To help you better understand silk wedding flower lingo, we've assembled this short glossary of wedding centerpiece terms.
Wedding Centerpiece Terms
Breakaway
A non-traditional wedding centerpiece in which numerous vases of flowers are grouped together to create a larger centerpiece. Breakaway centerpieces can be broken up and given as wedding remembrances after the reception.
Fishbowl
A wedding centerpiece in which artificial or silk flowers are grouped inside a low glass bowl. Add decorative wedding accessories to fishbowl centerpieces to take advantage of the transparent glass bowl.
Pedestal
A contemporary arrangement of wedding flowers in which a vase is placed on a pedestal that elevates the bouquet a few inches above the reception table. Pedestal materials for such silk flower bouquets include glass, wood, porcelain, brass, and silver plating.
Tiered
Tiered artificial bouquets are a combination of breakaway and pedestal arrangements. In tiered centerpieces, several vases are positioned on two or more different height levels. Alternate the flower sizes on each tier to further accent the layered appearance.
Topiary
Wedding centerpieces are not one of topiary's common uses, but such arrangements are offbeat and intriguing. Artificial topiaries are made to resemble the geometric shapes of miniaturized trees and plants found in topiary gardening.
Tower vase
A striking and iconic wedding flower centerpiece designed to rise far above the table. This wedding centerpiece is recommended for those who enjoy long-stemmed flowers.
Trumpet
A contemporary wedding centerpiece design in which flowers are kept in a vase that is narrow at its base but widens dramatically at the top. Use flowers of varying size for a fuller, rounder arrangement.
